We encourage discipline, work ethic, proper dress code, timeliness, passion for learning, and working together with parents and Teaching Artists to foster a love and respect for the magnificent art form of classical dance at the Kenwood School of Ballet. Through the vehicle of movement, we hope to develop great technologists and human beings. Kristi Lynne Mosbey is the Artistic Director and Founder of the Kenwood School of Ballet and the ITwirl Dance Program. She was also the Artistic Director of the Noumenon Dance Ensemble, a professional dance company in Chicago (2014-2015). She was born and raised in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Kristi earned her Bachelor of Arts in Modern Dance and Classical Ballet from Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi in 2007. Since 2004, Kristi has held her National Strength and Conditioning Association certification as a certified personal trainer.
Kristi has been training and performing in dance for over thirty years. From 2001 to 2003, she attended the Performing Arts High School at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. From 2000 to 2003, Kristi trained and performed with Javier Juarez Dance Company in the greater New Orleans area. Kristi was trained in flamenco, Latin style jazz, hip-hop, and tap dance while working with Mr. Juarez's group. After moving to Chicago in 2009, Kristi spent three seasons with Inspiracion Dance Company (formerly Chicago Latin Street Dance Company), one season with Modern Clave Dance Company, one season with Chicago Contemporary Dance Company, and three seasons as a company dancer with Noumenon Dance Ensemble, learning and performing Salsa, Mambo, and Cha-Cha. "As a young woman, I traveled to Chicago to pursue a dance career. I had no idea I'd fall in love with this city or open a school where kids could learn about and fall in love with dance. I am grateful, humbled, and proud to have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of so many children. It is a privilege that I do not take lightly.”
